Power Industry News Express: Technological Innovation and Industrial Upgrading Drive Green Energy Transformation
1. Global battery technology benchmark: CIBF2025 opens in Shenzhen, China leads industry innovation
On May 15th, the 17th Shenzhen International Battery Technology Exchange Conference (CIBF2025) opened at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center. The exhibition is themed "Connecting the World, Empowering Green, and Driving the Future", covering the entire battery industry chain, gathering more than 3200 companies such as CATL and BYD, with an exhibition area of nearly 300000 square meters. CATL announced the launch of its third-generation condensed matter battery with an energy density exceeding 500Wh/kg, while BYD showcased a model of its all solid state battery production line. At the same time as the exhibition, the "Blue Book 2024 of Lithium ion Battery Industry" and the "White Paper on Standardization of Low altitude Aircraft Batteries" will be released to promote the standardization process of the industry. Data shows that in the first quarter of 2025, China's exports of new energy vehicles were 441000 units, and the export of power batteries was 37.8 GWh, with year-on-year growth of 439% and 21.5% respectively, demonstrating the transformation achievements from "Made in China" to "Created in China".
2. New breakthrough in the field of energy storage: China Japan project landing, global technology competition accelerating
Kansai Electric Power's joint subsidiary is developing a 99MW/396MWh battery energy storage project at the former site of the Tanigawa Power Plant in Miba Town, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, to promote low-carbon energy transformation through the use of retired power plant sites. China has made milestone progress in the field of compressed air energy storage. Dunhuang has landed the world's first 660 MW artificial chamber type compressed air energy storage power station, with a single unit power of 660 MW, an energy storage capacity of 2640 megawatt hours, and a storage space of nearly 500000 cubic meters. The 2GWh Collie battery energy storage project of Synergy in Western Australia has entered the commissioning phase and is expected to be put into operation within the year, providing four hour power support for approximately 785000 households.
3. Power semiconductor technology upgrade: Gallium nitride and silicon carbide become mainstream
The power semiconductor industry is accelerating its migration towards third-generation materials, and Infineon has launched the world's first industrial gallium nitride (GaN) power transistor with integrated Schottky diodes, suitable for scenarios such as servers and telecommunications intermediate bus converters. Mitsubishi Electric has released the SLIMDIP series of silicon carbide power modules, which reduce power loss by 79% compared to silicon-based components and help upgrade home appliance energy efficiency. Nanomicro Semiconductor launches SiCPAK power module, using epoxy resin encapsulation technology, suitable for harsh environments such as DC fast charging of electric vehicles and photovoltaic inverters.
4. Power supply enterprise dynamics: global layout and capacity expansion
Eurofins: The data center power business has become a growth engine. In 2024, it will issue convertible bonds to raise 645 million yuan, of which 259 million yuan will be used to build domestic data center power production lines with products covering the full power range.
Minhua Power: showcased "innovative electrode plate technology" and "one-stop energy storage solution" at the 17th CIBF and 22nd CIPIE exhibitions, attracting the attention of global energy professionals with its lead calcium alloy electrode plate technology and national green factory certification.
Xingheng Power: The globalization strategy continues to advance, and in 2022, the FAR Expedition series lithium batteries, E-Bike lithium batteries, and Ultra Lithium S7 Pro will be developed. The Ultra Lithium S7 Pro has a long cycle life, strong endurance, and excellent low-temperature resistance.
5. Policies and Markets: Opportunities and Challenges in the Global Energy Transition
UK: Government increases Clean Industry Bonus funding to $720 million, Royal Property Office approves expansion of 4.7GW offshore wind power project to help achieve 50GW target by 2030.
EU: Passed a bill allowing car companies to calculate compliance based on three-year average carbon emissions, providing a "breathing space" for European car companies with slow growth in electric vehicle sales.
China: The National Energy Administration has proposed to increase the installed capacity of new energy generation by over 200 million kilowatts by 2025, and to increase the proportion of non fossil energy generation to 60%.
6. Industry activity outlook: Focus on energy storage profitability and battery technology
Webinar: On May 20th, ERCOT and CAISO associations discussed future profitable opportunities for energy storage.
European Exhibition: From June 3rd to 5th, Stuttgart, Germany will host the European Battery Exhibition, Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo, and Energy Storage Summit, focusing on next-generation battery technology and energy storage systems.
conclusion
In the context of global energy transition, the power industry is undergoing a dual drive of technological innovation and industrial upgrading. From breakthroughs in battery technology to the implementation of energy storage projects, from upgrading power semiconductors to global enterprise layout, the industry is accelerating towards green, efficient, and intelligent development. In the future, with the dual promotion of policy support and market demand, the power industry is expected to play a more important role in the global energy landscape
